Goal: the reorganization of atoms in chemical reactions results in the release or absorption of heat energy.
Chemical formula: Name of Metal: Color Produced:
KNO3 K peach color
Sr (NO3) Sr orange red
BaCNo3 Ba yellow
CuCl2 Cu lime green
DEW D Yellow, and green sparks.
LiNO3 Li red
CoCl3 Co yellow
In this lab we learned what metals change the color of a flame when it is put in the flame.
the flame color changed is what a chemical reaction is, when a metal mixes with flame it will change colors depending on what metal it is. My favorite metal to put into the flame was the Sr (NO3) because the color of the flame was orange red. it was a bright color.

law of convservation of mass
PART A:
Data collection: 1st 2nd 3rd
1. Mass of apparatus before mixing. 3.775g 3.953g 4.167g
2. observations on mixing. The reaction was the liguid turned thick and white. foamy looking.
PART B:
1st 2nd 3rd
1.mass of bottle,water,cap,and tablet. 23.864 25.556 25.743
2. observations. The tablet dissolved, and when i opened cap a gas was formed.
3. Mass of it after mixing. 25.836 25.282 25.634
4. mass of it after opening cap. 23.600 24.098 24.491
PART C:
1st 2nd 3rd
1.Mass of apparatus before mix. 4.0027 3.218 3.338
2. observations. there was a color change it went from purple then we mixed it and it turned white.
3. Mass of it after mixing. 4.017 3.059 3.332
The ones that were a chemical reaction were part A,B,C. They all had something changed to them. Part A, the liquid changed from clear to a thick. kinda foamy looking liquid. it was a thick liquid. Part B, the liquid formed gas, once we opened the bottle cap from shaking up the water and the tablet a noise of release came out when we opened it which shows gas was formed. Part C, the liquid was purple before we mixed it then when we mixed it the liquid turned to clear. The evidence of a chemical change was it thickened, gas was produced, and the color change which all shows a change in the chemicals. The law of conservation of matter is that matter cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction.
